Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao has reemphasised the critical need for short-term measures to be introduced to help revive the ailing economy in the second half of the year.

Thao called for progress in exports, trade and tourism to boost market demand and attract foreign investment in his speech at the 13 th conference of the city’s party committee in Hanoi on June 25.

The event, which reviewed the capital’s socio-economic performance in the first half of the year, set out an eight-solution package to reach the whole year’s target of at least 8 percent economic growth.

The package focuses on facilitating the operation of businesses in the locality, curbing inflation, improving the investment environment, implementing pending key projects and further luring foreign direct investment and official development assistance.

The city is forecast to reach a 7.67 percent economic growth rate in the first six months this year, a relatively high rate in the context of economic hardship nationwide, according to statistics from the conference.-VNA
