Hanoi has planned to build more hi-tech and industrial zones and give priority to the electronics industry, auto manufacturing, garment and biological technology.

Hanoi will build nine industrial zones between now and 2015 and plans to build an additional 15 IZs in the following 15 years.

At present, the city has only eight IZs that have contributed 10 percent of the city’s industrial production value, 45 percent of its export revenues and 20 percent of its GDP. These IZs are generating 110,000 jobs.

According to the Management Board of Hanoi Industrial and Export Processing Zones, by June 2011, Hanoi’s IZs had attracted 537 projects, including 253 foreign direct investment projects totalling 3.63 billion USD./.
