Vietnam’s state television broadcaster, Vietnam Television (VTV), will host this year’s Asia - Pacific Broadcasting Union General Assembly (ABU GA) in Hanoi from October 22-29.

Themed “Serving our audience in the digital era,” the regional 8-day event is expected to draw more than 250 agencies and organisations operating in mass communication and television all over the world.

On the sidelines of the event, many other activities will also be organised so that ABU members can exchange experience and promote a positive image of Vietnam and its people to international friends.

In order to prepare for the event, VTV has launched an official home page at http://abuhanoi2013.com >.

Established in 1964, the ABU aims to support its member nations in developing the broadcasting and television field through exchanging programmes, providing technical assistance and training workforce in the field.

The GA is the supreme body of the ABU. It meets once a year in ordinary session and is preceded by a series of associated meetings of the Sports Group, Technical and Programme Committees and Administrative Council. Over the years the event has grown by adding special events and seminars such as the ABU Prizes and the Gender Media Forum.

ABU currently has 255 members in 63 countries and territories, including associate members in Europe and North America.

This is the second time VTV has hosted the event, following the first time in 2005.-VNA
