The 7th Asia Pacific Regional Conference for Solidarity with Cuba will be held in Hanoi from September 8-9.

Co-organised by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the event is expected to draw the participation of over 200 delegates from 20 nations worldwide.

The event is among a series of conference following the First World Meeting Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba, held in Havana in 1994, which aim to call for support for Cuba’s struggle for independence, maintaining peace and social progress.

It is the second time Vietnam has hosted the Asia Pacific Regional Conference for Solidarity with Cuba, intending to show its Party, State and people’s support for the Latin American country while introducing Vietnam and its people to international friends.

The conference will address key issues such as the role of friendship and solidarity organisations with Cuba in lifting economic and trade blockades against Cuba as well as measures to strengthen solidarity movements with Cuba via the mass media.

Following the conference, international delegations are scheduled to pay courtesy visits to leaders of Vietnam’s Party and State.

The previous Asia Pacific Regional Conference for Solidarity with Cuba was held in Calcutta, India (1995); Hanoi, Vietnam (1997), Chennai, India (2006), Colombo, Sri Lanka (2008); Vientiane, Laos (2010) and Colombo, Sri Lanka (2012).-VNA
