Hanoi, (VNA) – Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen The Thao and Mayor of Wellington, New Zealand, Celia Wade-Brown signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in economics, education, culture and climate change response.

Under the document, the two cities will coordinate to boost information exchange on common economic forums, organise culture days, share experience on climate change adaptation and hold English-language training for Hanoi officials.

The two sides also agreed to propose the opening of a Hanoi-Wellington direct air route to their Governments.

During his visit from November 8-11, Thao met with Speaker of the House of Representatives David Carter, who vowed to continue to support New Zealand-Vietnam relations, with priority given to education, training, trade and investment.

The Hanoi leader highlighted the capital’s development goals, affirming that Hanoi attaches importance to its relations with New Zealand localities and wishes for intensified cooperation in fields New Zealand excels in like education, economics, trade, urban planning, culture and tourism.

Hanoi always creates favourable conditions for New Zealand organisations and enterprises to seek cooperation opportunities in information and communications, renewable energy, waste treatment and environmental projects in the city, he added.

On November 10, the Vietnamese Embassy in New Zealand released a book called “Doing Business with Vietnam”.-VNA
