HCM City (VNA) – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang met with Speaker of the Republic of Korea’s National Assembly Chung Sye-kyun on April 27, stressing that his city wants to enhance cooperation with Korean localities.

He expressed his delight at the growing strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and the RoK, noting that HCM City always wants to intensify all-round cooperation with the RoK for the sake of their people and peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world.

Talking about local socio-economic attainments and development orientations, Thang said he hopes the official visit to Vietnam by the Korean NA speaker will help popularise his city’s dynamism and development to Korean businesses and people. He expects the trip will create a new wave of Korean investment in and increase the number of Korean tourists to HCM City.

Municipal authorities pledge to keep improving the local investment climate to provide the best possible conditions for foreign investors, including those from the RoK, Thang added.

The Party official noted HCM City has stepped up connections with Korean localities over the past years by increasing delegation exchanges and cooperation activities in all spheres.

It will work closely with Korean agencies to successfully organise celebrations of 25 years of the two countries’ diplomatic ties in 2017, including the World Cultural Festival 2017 hosted by the RoK’s Gyeongsangbuk province in the southern city of Vietnam.

For his part, Speaker Chung thanked municipal leaders for favourable conditions for Korean enterprises and people, expressing his hope that the RoK’s management experience, technology, and working skills will contribute to local development.

Valuing the city’s status and potential in Vietnam’s economic growth, he asked municipal leaders to continue facilitating Korean firms’ long-term investment, thereby helping to bolster the two countries’ economic and trade partnership.

The RoK, with more than 1,300 projects worth over 3.5 billion USD, is the fifth biggest investor among countries and territories investing in HCM City. There are about 2,000 businesses and 100,000 people from the RoK in the city at present.-VNA
