A sombre ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on September 21 to mark the 65 th anniversary of Southern Resistance Day (September 23).

When addressing the function, the President of the municipal Fatherland Front’s Central Committee Duong Quan Ha reviewed the southern peoples’ fight against the French, who intended to invade Vietnam for a second time, following the August Revolution.

He said their spirit of solidarity and resilient struggle for national independence is a precious tradition, which has been kept and developed during the country’s wars of resistance and during national construction.

He called upon the city’s citizens to uphold national unity to overcome their difficulties and contribute to the city’s modernisation and industrialisation.

Representatives of veterans and many young people also showed their determination to play a positive role in the city’s socio-economic development programme.

On the occasion, a photography exhibition showcasing 90 photos on the development of Ho Chi Minh City since resistance day, opened in Lam Son Park./.
