HCM City (VNA) – HCM City treasures the relationship it has with Hong Kong and is willing to further cooperation with the territory, said a municipal leader.

Nguyen Thanh Phong, Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee, made the remark during his meeting with Carrie Lam, Chief Secretary of Administration for the Hong Kong Special Administration Region Government, on August 16.

According to Phong, in the context of Vietnam’s participation in the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the negotiations for the ASEAN-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement coming to a conclusion, Hong Kong is considered one of the big trade partners of Vietnam in general and HCM City in particular.

Hong Kong is the fifth largest investor in HCM City with 349 projects capitalised at more than 3 billion USD, he said, hoping for Hong Kong investors’ more interest in the city’s financial sector.

For her part, Carrie Lam spoke highly of HCM City’s development and potential, saying that Hong Kong businesses are increasingly interested in the city’s investment environment and wish to further collaboration in finance, aviation, urban railway and high technology.-VNA
