Ho Chi Minh City welcomed more than 1.6 million foreign visitors in the first five months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The city earned 24.4 trillion VND from tourism during the reviewed period, up 15 percent year on year.

Although the growth rate was not as high as expected, it was seen as a positive sign for the city’s tourism as the country’s tourism sector was facing many difficulties and the number of foreign visitors to the country decreased compared to the same time last year.

However, the department also pointed out that the growth rate in the numbers of foreign visitors tends to go down.

The city is preparing a number of programmes to lure more tourists in the coming months.-VNA
