Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has asked Ho Chi Minh City to be resolute, patient and firm to continue bettering the Party building work.

Party building is a regular, uninterrupted and long-term task, the Party chief reiterated while working on March 29 with the municipal leaders on the implementation of the Resolution of the 4 th meeting of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee regarding some urgent issues on Party building.

In the immediate time, HCM City should review the one-year implementation of the resolution and publicise the results to let people know what have been done and what yet to be done, he said.

“Each member of the municipal Party Committee and its standing board must be a vanguard and set an example for subordinates and people,” he stressed.

The Party leader emphasised the need to regularly examine the implementation of the resolution, adding that improving the Party’s leadership and combative strength is key to sustainable development, thus protecting the regime and revolutionary fruits.

He praised great achievements HCM City has made in the implementation of the resolution as well as in socio-economic development, affirming its role as a locomotive and the nation’s socio-economics, culture, education, and science-technology hub.

Due to its important role and position, HCM City should closely follow the Party’s resolutions and the State’s strategies in implementing its action plans as well as taking feasible and practical measures to achieve its set targets ahead of other localities to turn itself into a modern industrialised city, he said.

According to Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee Le Thanh Hai, during 2011-2012, despite domestic and world difficulties and challenges, HCM City’s economic growth was 1.8 times higher than that of the country.

Later on the day, Party leader Trong made a visit to District 8, the city’s southern gateway, which has recorded rapid urbanisation in recent years.-VNA
