- Ho Chi Minh City’s June consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.8 percent compared to May, the municipal Statistics Office announced on June 24.

The figure represents a year-on-year increase of 1.79 percent, the office said, adding that the average price index in the first six months of this year rose by 1.02 percent on an annual basis.

Among the 11 groups of products and services, transportation services posted the highest growth in price of 3.33 percent, mainly driven by the recent price hikes in petrol and oil.

Rises were seen in housing, electricity, water, fuel and building materials (1.78 percent), beverage and cigarettes (0.36 percent), food and catering services (0.35 percent), pharmaceutical products and health services (0.01 percent).

Prices of food and food stuff increased 0.58 percent and 0.09 percent, respectively, while restaurant and catering services remained stable in the month.

On the other hand, five groups of products and services experienced a price fall compared with the previous month, including culture and entertainment (0.38 percent), post and telecommunications (0.16 percent), education (0.06 percent), home appliances and housewares (0.02 percent), garments, headgear and footwear (0.01 percent).

Other products and services remain stable compared with May.

Gold prices rose 0.09 percent and the USD price gained 0.26 percent compared to May.-VNA
