The VN-Index remained largely unchanged on Aug. 25, closing at 528.85as the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange continued to feel great pressure from heavy sales of penny stock.

Decliners outnumbered gainers by 105 to 40, but gains by a few major stocks, including FPT, PetroVietnam Finance (PVF) and Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), helped prop up the Index.

Sacombank (STB) remained the most active share on the southern market, with 4.8 million traded, while Phu My Fertilisers (DPM posted the sharpest gain on the day, up 5 percent.

The value of the day’s trades neared the level of last Friday’s frenzy at about 3.1 trillion VND (174.2 million USD), while volume rose by 23 percent over Aug. 24’s session to 65.3 million shares.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index closed off 0.57 percent to 163.63 points, with 145 codes declining and 56 advancing. Transactions totaled 1.1 trillion VND (61.8 million USD) while volume maintained significant at 29.6 millions shares./.
