HCM City (VNA) – A Vietnamese-Australian woman who tried to smuggle nearly five kilogrammes of heroin through Tan Son Nhat International Airport was arrested by the customs officers at the airport and relevant authorities on July 24.

The drug was concealed in her luggage and personal belongings.

The 37-year-old trafficker told the investigative police that she was hired to take the drug to Australia for a fee of 25,000 USD. The heroin would fetch 750,000 USD on the black market.

The case is under further investigation.

In the first six months of the year, the Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s customs division seized 1.1 tonnes of “Khat” leaves containing the stimulant cathinone from Africa and nearly 15 kilogrammes of heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine.-VNA
