Hon Tre island – the administrative centre of Kien Hai district, the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang was officially connected to the national power grid on February 11.

The sea-crossing power project has a total cost of 78 billion (around 3.66 million USD). It includes the construction of a 12.9-km long 22kV transmission line, 27 poles with a height between 43-48 metres above the sea level. The line runs from Tho Son commune in the mainland district of Hon Dat.

Additionally, a power network on Hon Tre island with 6.2 km of a 22kV transmission line, 2.8km of a transmission line and 10 transformer stations with a total capacity of 1,275kVA were constructed as part of the project.

About 30km west of Kien Giang’s city of Rach Gia, Hon Tre island covers an area of 428.59 ha. Along with Phu Quoc, Kien Hai is an island district with great potential for developing sea-based economy, services, tourism and maritime transport.

The power project to Hon Tre island commune is expected to help Kien Hai create new impetus in its socio-economic development.-VNA
