Vietnam’s Children’s Fund presented 148 scholarships worth 20,000 USD to Hanoi’s disabled children on October 8.

Of the scholarships, funded by the Hong Kong based Sun Wah Group, 64 are reserved for visually-impaired pupils from Nguyen Dinh Chieu Primary School and 84 for deaf and dumb pupils from Xa Dan Primary School.

Earlier this year, Sun Wah also donated 30,000 USD, through the Vietnam Children’s Fund, to build a day-care centre in the northern province of Bac Ninh.

The Hong Kong group started to do business in Vietnam in 1970, originally in seafood, but has now expanded into real estate development and financial services.

The scholarship programme, launched by the Vietnam Children’s Fund, has provided almost 30,400 scholarships since 1994, valued at close to 17.7 billion VND (roughly 903,000 USD) for talented poor and disabled children./.
