Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson met with Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla on July 30 to discuss ways to improve relations between the two countries.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla told the press that they had discussed several issues related to the future relations between Indonesia and Australia, economic challenges and a plan to establish a consulate general in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

They also talked about ways to improve bilateral linkages in the second half of 2015 amidst the recent disturbances over several diplomatic issues, he added.

Relations between Indonesia and Australia were tense following the execution of Australian drug convicts Andre Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, as well as Australia’s alleged bribe of crew members on a boat carrying asylum seekers to return to Indonesia.-VNA
