Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia and Denmark on May 2 signed an agreement on cooperation in carrying out wind power projects in Indonesia, with the one in Surakarta scheduled for 2018.

The signing was witnessed by Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan and Denmark’s Minister of Development Cooperation Ulla Tørnӕs.

Indonesia has a huge potential for wind power so that the country’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to develop wind power plants in 16 locations nationwide.

Indonesia will partner with Denmark to implement the projects in Surakarta, Central Java and Jeneponto andSIdrap in South Sulawesi.

The country has about 800 inhabited islands that need energy sources. Wind power is considered the best choice for them as energy supplies from the cable network are not suitable and cost-effective.-VNA
