Indonesian President Joko Widodo said his country is committed to participating in infrastructure development in Timor-Leste.

Indonesia will encourage investment and promote trade relations between the two countries, the President stated at a joint press conference with Timor-Leste’s Prime Minister Rui Maria de Araujo in Jakarta on August 26.

Both countries attached importance to border issues, especially land borders, which are expected to be settled by the year’s end, he said.

For his part, Prime Minister Araujo said the two nations agreed to enhance cooperation in economics, defence, education and culture.

The initiatives aim to develop relations between the two governments and bilateral economic links, he added.

Nearly 400 Indonesian private companies are operating in Timor-Leste and 500 Indonesian students are pursuing education in the host country.

Prime Minister Araujo lauded Indonesia for its commitment to investing in building capacity in agriculture, seafood, infrastructure and forestry in Timor-Leste.-VNA
