Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesia’s national police force has taken security measures for the possibility of terrorist attacks on police offices by militants which aim to cause huge fatalities ahead of Islamic Eid al-Fitr festival.

National police spokesperson Setyo Wasisto on June 20 said an operation has been undertaken to counter potential terrorist threats.

He added that the operation was to prepare for possible strikes on key locations and police stations.

National Police chief General Tito Karnavian ordered the special counter-terror squad Densus 88 to step up monitoring and supervision of the activities of terrorist groups ahead of Eid al-Fitr festival, which falls on June 26-27.

He also stressed the need to take a preventive act and quick respond if there is any indication of the movement linked to terrorist cells.

Indonesia has suffered from several suicide bombings by IS-linked militants. The latest case was the twin blasts on May 24 at a bus station in Jakarta’s eastern Kampung Melayu area, killing 15 people. - VNA
