Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has stressed that the country needs to have an agricultural development model to respond to the global economic changes.

Speaking at a ceremony to mark the founding anniversary of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) on December 20, the President said the need for such agricultural model becomes urgent in the context that the country has adopted a decentralisation system with a high economic growth.

Yudhoyono gave out three options for the agricultural development model. The first one provides many opportunities for the market economy to decide development direction, while the second emphasises the participation of the Government in development. And the third model is a combination of the two above-mentioned models.

Indonesia should choose the third model but avoid the excessive intervention from the Government, he noted.-VNA
