Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian authorities on July 13 said the country’s police, in cooperation with Taiwanese-Chinese police, have seized one tonne of crystal methamphetamine attempted to be smuggled to the country from China.

Two Taiwanese nationals were arrested while one was shot to death and another was still at large when Indonesian police seized the drug in a crackdown at a pier in Serang, Banten province, bordering the capital city of Jakarta, after two-month investigation.

The drug was found packed into 51 boxes put in two minivans.

This is the biggest seizure in Southeast Asia and also the biggest in Indonesia since 840 kilos of crystal methamphetamine smuggled from China were captured in 2015.

The detainees could be sentenced to death if being convicted of drug smuggling.-VNA
