Indonesia is targeting export markets in North Africa and the Middle East, particularly Algeria, Deputy Trade Minister Bayu Khrisnamurthi has said.

At a recent press conference in Jakarta, the official said Algeria is a promising market, especially for construction materials, construction services and consumer products.

He announced Indonesia’s participation in the International Fair of Algeria, adding that his country is seeking to increase exports to Algeria as total non-oil/gas exports to that country are worth only around 250 million USD, still small compared to both countries’ potential.

Indonesia is expecting to increase exports to twice that, the official said.

According to data from Indonesia’s National Statistics Agency, total trade between Indonesia and Algeria grew by 25.9 percent between 2009 and 2013.

Indonesia’s imports from Algeria are dominated by oil and gas products valued at 379.25 million USD.

Khrisnamurthi said the trade mission will also have discussions on cooperation with Jordan as the entry point for Indonesian products to the northern regions of the Middle East.-VNA
