Jakarta (VNA) – The US is interested in win-win trade relations with Indonesia, the Southeast Asian largest economy, US Vice President Mike Pence said at a joint press conference following a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on April 20. 

For his part, President Widodo affirmed to boost the strategic partnership with the US, especially in trade and investment. 

He said the two countries will set up a group to discuss issues related to investment and bilateral trade management based on win-win principles. 

Apart from trade, they discussed cooperation on fighting terrorism and maritime security. 

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Trade’s data, total trade value between the two countries reached 23.83 billion USD in 2016 and Indonesia enjoyed a surplus of 8.65 billion USD.

Major export products of the Southeast Asian country to the US were parallel, footwear and seafood while it imports soy, machines and aircraft from the US.

Indonesia is one of 16 countries under a review for having a trade surplus with the US.-VNA
