Darori, Director General of the Forest Protection and Nature Conservation of the Indonesian Forestry Ministry, said that the two sides exchanged information on law enforcement, particularly regulations relating to illegal trade in wildlife and timber.
He said that Indonesia wants to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam to fight illegal trade in tiger, armadillo and other wild species because smugglers often use Vietnam as a gateway to China.
Do Quang Tung, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), affirmed that Vietnam is willing to cooperate with Indonesia in wildlife conservation.
The two sides agreed on a memorandum of understanding on cooperating in law enforcement, raising public awareness and human resource training.
The event was held within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Wildlife Enforcement Network (ASEAN-WEN)./.
