Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian police said it has been put on full alert after uncovering suicide-bombing conspiracies in Jakarta and arresting many suspects reportedly relating to the so-called Islamic State.

After a three-day hunt in the entire Java island, the police confiscated large amount of explosives and an IS flag and arrested nine suspects on December 20.

According to the confiscated documents, several among the arrested are associated with a suicide-bombing conspiracy in Jakarta on the New Year. Five of them have connections with the IS and four belong to the terrorist network Jemaah Islamiyah, the organisation behind many big attacks in Indonesia.

The police affirmed besides Jakarta, the two groups also planned to organise attacks in West Java, Sumatra and Borneo.

According to the Chief of Indonesian National Police Badrodin Haiti, the Indonesian police has been implementing preventive measures. He also affirmed the Australian Federal Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Singaporean authorities have assisted in discovering the terrorist plans.

Earlier, in August, Indonesia arrested three persons relating to the IS who have conspired to carry out bombings on Indonesia’s National Day.-VNA
