Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo will visit Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) on April 30 after attending the 30th Summit of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Philippines.

According to Indonesia’s Foreign Minister, the President plans to meet with the region’s Chief Executive on measures to increase cooperation between Indonesia and Hong Kong.

The two sides are also expected to consider accelerating the pace of a bilateral free trade agreement.

Two memoranda of understanding on business and cultural cooperation are slated to be signed on the occasion.

The Indonesian President will also meet with CEOs of major groups and firms in Hong Kong to call for their investment in infrastructure and the innovation industry in Indonesia.

The investment flow from Hong Kong into Indonesia has surged during recent years, with a more- than-three-fold increase compared to 2015 to 2.25 billion USD in 2016. However, bilateral trade only rose slightly from 3.8 billion USD in 2015 to 3.9 billion USD.

Around 172,000 Indonesian workers are working in Hong Kong, and the protection of those workers is also one of the issues to be mentioned during the visit.-VNA
