An Indonesia woman convicted of drug smuggling was sentenced to life imprisonment by the People's Court of Hanoi on May 7.

Triwening Puji Astuti, 28, a babysitter, was accused of smuggling drugs from Malaysia to Hanoi in Vietnam.

In September last year, she smuggled 5kg of drugs to Hanoi by hiding it in six comic books in a suitcase. She was arrested while waiting for a drug receiver.

During her interrogation, Triwening admitted to the crime, stating that her poor financial condition had forced her into drug smuggling. One of her friends introduced her to a smuggler and soon she started helping him carry drugs to many countries.

For every successful shipment, she received 2,000 USD.
