A delegation of more than 200 representatives from foreign embassies, international organizations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on Feb. 25 visited the northern province of Ninh Binh.

Representatives from several ministries and related agencies, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and its Hanoi chapter also attended the visit.

The event is part of the programme named “Friendship Spring Trip 2012”, which aims to promote friendship and relations between Vietnam with countries over the world.

Speaking at the meeting with the delegation, the Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee Secretary, Bui Van Nam, briefed on the local socio-economic development in recent time.

Nam noted that Ninh Binh has many advantages to promote tourism development, especially green tourism, adding that the province is an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investors and tourists.

Nam said he hopes international delegates will make contributions to helping the province expand multifaceted cooperation with foreign countries as well as attract more investment into the province in the future.

He also said the province is preparing documents to propose that UNESCO recognise the system of grottos named Trang An as a world natural heritage. The province also wants to receive support from foreign delegations and international guests for the target, Nam said.

Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam , El Houcine Fardani, said this is a good chance for international delegates to get better understanding of the local history and culture.

He spoke highly of the visit, saying that he hopes UNESCO will soon recorgnise the Trang An system of grottos as a world natural heritage.

At the meeting, VUFO Chairman Vu Xuan Hong expressed his hope that the ambassadors, representatives of international organisations and NGOs in Vietnam will continue to assist the province, contributing to promoting potentials, strengths and historical tradition as well as popular sites in Ninh Binh to international friends.-VNA
