Over 100 international delegates gathered at a meeting held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30 by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and its chapter in HCM City on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam and national reunification.

Delegates shared their emotions and recalled the unforgettable moments in the Vietnamese people’s relentless struggle for peace, independence and reunification.

Deri Miklos, a former member of the International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS) at the Paris Peace Accords in Vietnam, expressed his admiration for Vietnamese people’s heroism, bravery and solidarity.

Sandra Scagliotti, director of a centre for research on Vietnam in Italy, said over the years she has conducted much research on the healing of war wounds and rebuilding in Vietnam. She called on the American government to compensate its wartime victims.

Vu Xuan Hong, Chairman of VUFO, said Vietnamese people’s struggle for independence always received support from millions of people from peace-supporting and progressive organisations.

Delegates visited Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal and the Thien Phuoc Disability Children Protection Shelter on May 1.-VNA
