An international volunteer campaign will be held in Ha Long City, north-eastern Quang Ninh province from August 15-28 as part of a series of programmes on preserving world heritage initiated by UNESCO and the COordianting Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS).

Thirteen volunteers from Vietnam , Canada , France , Germany and the Republic of Korea , are expected to joint the event, which will include discussions on cultural heritages and study trips to Ha Long Bay nearby coal mines and fishing villages.

They will also join local children, young people and residents in painting contests, fashion shows and collecting rubbish on beaches.

Organisers – Solidarites Jeunesses Vietnam and Ha Long Bay Management Board – hope the activities will give the volunteers an insight into problems facing the famous bay and help relate them to world heritage issues.

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the CCIVS initiated the series of 12 world heritage preservation and promotion programmes entitled “World Heritage Volunteers Patrimonito rolls up the sleeves” in 2007./.
