Rome (VNA) – Italy’s University of Brescia hopes to receive more Vietnamese students and postgraduates, headmaster of the university Maurizio Tira told Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Cao Chinh Thien at their meeting in Lombardy on April 19.

Tira said his university has enjoyed close cooperation with Vietnam’s University of Water Resources, adding that the two sides are discussing the possibility of conducting two joint resarch projects on climate change and sea level rises in Vietnam as well as irrigation in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces.

The two sides are proposing the two countries’ governments allocate official development assistance resources to the two projects, he said.

The University of Brescia also signed a deal with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training to give accommodation support to Vietnamese students sponsored by Government projects 911 and 599.

However, he noted that so far, the university has not received any Vietnamese students within the two projects that also cover other localities besides Italy.

Currently, the University of Brescia hosts 12 students and postgraduates from Vietnam, he said.

He said that tuition fees at the university are much more reasonable than other universities in Italy and Europe, calling for Vietnamese students to enroll and apply for scholarships through its website.

For his part, Ambassador Cao Chinh Thien said that the peaceful city of Brescia is a good place for Vietnamese students to study.

He affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to partnership with Italy, especially in education and training, as the country considers human resource development a driver of growth.

He promised to propose the Vietnamese Government provide capital resources to two projects on climate change and irrigation in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.

He also pledged to notify the Ministry of Education and Training on the possibility of granting scholarships to students from Italy and Brescia University.

The University of Brescia is a public university founded in 1982. It has eight faculties with 14,000 students and 565 lecturers.-VNA
