The Japanese Government on June 12 signed an agreement providing non-refundable aid to build three schools, at a total cost of almost 365,000 USD.

Subsequently, three new primary schools will be built in Hai Phu commune in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province, Phu Loc commune in Phu Ninh district, Phu Tho province and Quang Thien commune in Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province, to replace the existing ones which are dilapidated and over-crowded.

On speaking at the signing of the agreement, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam , Yasuaki Tanizaki, said that he hopes the new schools will improve the children’s learning environment and contribute to the socio-economic development of the selected localities.

Japan takes a special interest in primary education in Vietnam and is keen to help improve educational facilities for children as well as the development of education in Vietnam , he added. To date, 158 primary schools have been built using Japanese funding, providing a better learning environment for tens of thousands of children.

Over the years, Japan has focused on offering official development aid (ODA) for small-scale projects at a local level, alongside the larger projects concerning the development of the country’s infrastructure. Since 1992, 434 such small projects worth a total 34.5 million USD have been implemented in almost every province in Vietnam.-VNA
