The Japanese Government will assist ASEAN member countries to enhance their capacity in coping with natural disasters.

The assistance will be made by providing natural disaster control systems basing on satellites and Japanese technologies.

Japan plans to send missions of government officials and entrepreneurs to ASEAN member countries to negotiate and sign bilateral agreements with cities selected to receive the assistance.

The Japanese Government will finance feasibility studies before their enterprises can propose practical projects.

According to the Nikkei daily, among ASEAN countries, Vietnam is considering the installation of environmental supervision systems capable of measuring radioactivity, while Singapore wants to build a system that could monitor traffic movements, even in case a disaster occurs./.
