According to Japanese Vice-Minister of Defence Akinori Eto, on top of growing economic cooperation, Japan and ASEAN need to further strengthen ties in security and defence.
He said his new administration wants to reinforce security and defence cooperation with ASEAN countries and contribute to peace in the region.
The meeting is the first high-ranking defence dialogue of its kind since Prime Minister Shinzo Abe took office in December last year.-VNA
