The Ministry of Justice was honoured with the Order of Independence, first class, during a ceremony marking its 70th founding anniversary (August 28) in Hanoi on August 24.

In his speech, Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong recalled what the sector achieved over the past 70 years, saying that it has well performed its function in legislation, State management in legal and judicial affairs, and judicial assistance.

During the country’s renovation period, the sector has improved its theoretical awareness, political and legal mindset on researching, proposing and building national strategies on legal and judicial affairs in line with the Political Platform on building the country in the transitional period towards socialism and socio-economic development strategies.

It has grown into a trustworthy think-tank of the Party, National Assembly, Government, Party committees and local authorities, he stated.

Speaking to the ceremony, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong demanded firm faith and absolute loyal to the Party, close attachment to the people, dedication to tasks entrusted by the Party and State, contributing to strengthening public trust in the Party, State and regime.

In any circumstance, the sector must be steadfast in its goal and Party position on building and completing a law-governed socialist State and legal system.

By nature, the socialist State is ruled by law of the people, by the people and for the people, in which the legal system must ensure that the State runs smoothly while keeping human civilisation and Vietnamese tradition values intact. The sector, in particular, must be aware of this point and fine-tune regulations, considering foreign experiences and the country’s realities.

The leader asked for leveraging brainpower and making thorough and comprehensive changes to the quality and operation of the sector, adding that it must institutionalize the Party resolutions, especially the Document of the upcoming 12th National Party Congress while providing feedback on the National Assembly’s legislation programme for the 14th tenure, towards bringing in a synchronous, transparent and effective legal system by 2020.

He noted that raising legal awareness should be a major part of the political thought education as well as a regular task of the ministries, agencies and the entire political system, towards the ultimate goal of helping every individual and organisation abide by law and the Constitution, especially Party members, officials and cadres.

The sector was also required to further improve the State management in citizenship, household and legal records, better the quality of enforcing civil and administrative actions, and rally public resources on providing public services in the field of judicial assistance.

Towards the end of his speech, the Party chief said personnel training should be a focus, initially through partnership with the Supreme People’s Court and the Vietnam Bar Federation to train a contingent of professional lawyers who are able to work on international scene to protect the rights and interest of the State, businesses and Vietnamese citizens.

The event was also graced by the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu, former Party and State leaders, and justice ministers from Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.-VNA
