Free check-ups to detect congenital heart diseases and consultation have come to children living in Nguyen Binh and Quang Uyen districts in northern mountainous Cao Bang province from June 22 – 24.

Six out of 532 tested children under the age of 18 requires operation. Doctors also helped their parents apply for assistance from the Heartbeat Vietnam programme.

The VinaCapital Foundation (VCF) will fully sponsor live-saving surgeries for children with insurance and from financially disadvantaged families, and cover 70 percent of the operation costs for others.

In 2006, the VCF , a US non-governmental organisation, launched the “Heartbeat Vietnam” programme, which has helped cure thousands of children with heart defects in Vietnam.-VNA
