The Speaker of the Assembly of the Union of Myanmar and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Thura U Shwe Mann began his official visit to Laos on September 15, with the objective of improving relations between the two countries’ legislative bodies.

During his talks with Lao National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou, the two sides briefed each other on their respective national socio-economic and political situations, as well as the positive results of bilateral cooperation.

To date, the two countries have signed 38 cooperative documents in a number of fields, including transport, tourism, trade, investment, agriculture, education and culture.

Pany Yathotou spoke highly of Thura U Shwe Mann’s visit to Laos and his participation in the 35th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-35) in Vientiane, Laos, from September 15-20.

These activities will boost the two countries’ relationship of cooperation and neighbourliness, she said.

During his stay in Laos, the speaker will pay courtesy visits to Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong.

He will also visit several economic and cultural facilities in Vientiane.-VNA
