Vientiane (VNA) – The first session of the 8th Lao National Assembly (NA) is taking place in Vientiane from April 20 to 23, with the personnel issue and structure of the Government and judicial agencies top of the agenda.

Addressing the event, NA Chairwoman Pany Yathotou said the first meeting holds significance as lawmakers will approve a series of important national matters.

Deputies will review and ratify the personnel structure of the 8th legislature, elections on President and Vice Presidents, Prime Ministers and Deputy Prime Ministers, Head of Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor and President of the Supreme People’s Court.

The NA is due to discuss and adopt the 8 th five-year national socio-economic development plan, the national strategy for the next 10 years and the country’s vision towards 2030 along with the parliament’s plans in promulgating and revising laws in the next five years.

Participants will hear reports of the National Election Committee on the election results of deputies to the 8th legislature and the provincial and municipal People’s Councils.-VNA
