All of the 76 Lao students at Quang Nam University in central Vietnam enjoyed their traditional New Year Bunpimay festival from April 13-15 consistent with their customs at home.

The Lao students held a ritual ceremony in making offerings to the ancestors, praying to God for good weather, bumper harvests and a happy New Year.

Ancient festivities such as throwing water, building mounds of towers, eating traditional food and binding threads on each other’s wrists have made homesick young people closer to each other and warm in their hearts.

Sing Dam Khiu La Vong, a Lao student from Quang Nam University , confided that he was unable to return home during this New Year festival but celebrations held by the university have made him and his fellow friends feel happy and like they were at home.

Celebrations of the Lao traditional festival by universities in Quang Nam province have also strengthened friendship between the two countries, said organisers from Quang Nam University./.
