Laos plans on being a major South-East Asian regional electricity supplier, Lao news agency KPL said.

KPL quoted Saypaseuth Phopsoupha, director of the Energy Promotion and Development Department under Laos' Ministry of Energy and Mines, as saying that the Lao government is expected to sell 7,000 MW of electricity to Thailand by 2015 and 5,000 MW to Vietnam by 2020.

The electricity will come from hydropower plants nationwide including Nam Thuen 2, he said.

Saypaseuth also stated that if all government hydropower projects run as scheduled, these can draw millions of dollars in revenue for the country./.
