Laos announces new leaders

Pany Yathotu, Politburo member has been promoted to chairwoman of the Lao National Assembly (NA) and Thongsing Thammavong has been appointed as Lao Prime Minister, replacing Bouasone Bouphavan.

At the tenth session of the sixth NA of Laos from Dec.14-23, the amended laws on NA, general election to the NA and addressing economic disputes and a new law on measuring systems were approved.

The session heard reports on activities of the sixth NA, results of a budget audit in the 2008-2009 period, draft plans on the seventh socio-economic development from 2011-2015 and the building of an express railway linking China and Laos as well as a review of the work of the previous NA over the past five years./.
