Laos and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) have signed a number of bilateral cooperation documents.

The documents include a cultural exchange plan for the 2012-2015 period, a cooperation agreement on information technology data, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in education, and a cooperation agreement between the Lao Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the DPRK Chamber of Industry.

The signing ceremony took place in Vientiane on August 8 in the witness of Lao President Choummaly Sayasone and President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK Kim Yong-Nam.

During their talks earlier, the two leaders briefed each other of socio-economic development in each other’s country and discussed bilateral ties.

President Chummaly Sayasone affirmed Laos’ consistent stance on developing a peaceful, nuclear-free Korean peninsula.

President Kim Yong-Nam thanked the Lao Party and Government for supporting to the DPRK.

Also the same day, President Kim Yong-Nam met with Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, Vice National Assembly Chairman Somphanh Phengkhammy, and Vice Chairman of the Lao Front for National Construction and Chairman of the Laos-FPRK Friendship Association Tong Yeutho.

President Kim Yong-Nam is on an official visit to Laos from August 7-10 at the invitation of President Choummaly Sayasone.-VNA
