Lao Vice President Bounnhang Vorachit has affirmed that his country will create favourable conditions for Vietnam to collect and repatriate the remains of fallen Vietnamese martyrs in the country.

The Vice President made the affirmation on June 18 at a reception for Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Thanh Cung, who heads the Vietnamese Government’s Special Mission and is on a working visit to Laos from June 16 to 19.

The host highly applauded the 20-year-plus coordination between the Special Mission and Lao partners in researching, collecting and repatriating the remains of more than 16,400 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers to their homeland.

Bounnhang Vorachit also expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese Party, Government and people for sending volunteer soldiers and experts to fight and sacrifice their lives for the lofty international cause, freedom and independence of both countries during wartime in Laos.

The Deputy Defence Minister said the aim of the visit is to sign minutes on the 2013-2014 cooperation in locating, collecting and repatriating the remains of the last 1.000 volunteer soldiers, awarding distinctions to Lao individuals and collectives for their efforts in the work.

The host also conveyed his gratitude to Laos’ Government and people for their support, expressing his belief in closer cooperation between the two sides for the work’s future.-VNA
