The Lao Government and its development partners have congregated at the 11th High Level Round Table Meeting (RTM) in Vientiane to discuss measures to deepen cooperation and mobilise more financial aid for Laos ’ cooperative programmes.

Addressing the November 19 opening ceremony, Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong highlighted Laos’ achievements in implementing the national socio-economic development plan during the 2011-2015 period.

The outcomes were achieved thanks to constant, strong and stable economic growth, he said, adding that the country has also recorded progress in realising the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), with poverty rate falling to 20.5 percent.

The Lao leader expressed his hope that the development partners will continue offering his country financial and technical assistance to carry out its five-year national development plan and the MDGs.

Themed “Accelerating Millennium Development Goals Achievement and Inclusive Development”, the meeting will focus on Laos ’ development priorities by 2015 and explore ways to fulfill the long-term goals.

Laos received over 777 million USD from Official Development Assistance (ODA) in the 2012-2013 fiscal years, up over 72 million USD from the previous year.-VNA
