Lao Vice President, Bounnhang Vorachit urged a national committee to push the organisation of activities to mark the major anniversaries in Vietnam-Laos ties this year.

Bounnhang Vorachit made the call on August 22 while he was chairing a meeting with Lao officials to discuss plans of celebration from now to the end of the year, for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, 35 years of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries and the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2012.

A wide range of activities are being planned, including a grand meeting, a seminar and talks with historical witnesses from both countries scheduled for Laos’ central Khammouane province in October, and a fair at the Dansavan- Lao Bao border gate in November.

The Vice President also asked the country’s relevant agencies to complete on schedule the construction of a memorial site dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh in Khammouane.-VNA
