The Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism held a national conference in Vientiane on April 28 to review its performance over the past year and set new tasks for the next one.

Minister Bosengkham Vongdala said the function demonstrated the ministry’s determination to develop the country in its areas of expertise.

He praised the achievements gained by the sector last year, while pointed out problems that require a resolution ahead of the 60 th founding anniversary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and the 40th Lao National Day, which both fall in 2015.

The number of visitors arriving in the Lao capital of Vientiane in 2013 has reached over 1.4 million, according to the Lao news agency KPL.

Earlier this year, Laos was awarded the World’s Best Tourist Destination for 2013 by the European Union Council on Tourism and Trade.-VNA
