Laos to expand Wattay international airport

Wattay International Airport in Vientiane.

Wattay International Airport in Vientiane.
Under the contract, Nippon Koei will provide consultancy services for contractors of the airport expansion project, which aims to enable the airport to accommodate increasing airplanes, passengers and cargo.
The project has a total investment of 97 million USD sourced from the Japanese Government’s official development assistance (ODA), of which 8.5 million USD will be used for consultancy services.
Facilities to be expanded include an international passenger terminal and parking areas while a domestic terminal, an aircraft maintenance workshop and runways will be built.
According to official data, the Wattay International Airport served around 520,000 passengers in 2011 and the number climbed to 800,000 two years later. It is expected that by 2025, the number of passengers via the airport will hit 2 million per year.-VNA
