Hanoi (VNA) – Children in Laos will enjoy free health care services in public hospitals from 2017 under a new policy of the government aiming to reduce fatality rate among children under five.

The Vientiane Times on April 24 quoted a Lao health official as saying the new “strategy and action plan for maternal and child health”, will focus on providing free health care services for children, especially infants and those under five.

The policy includes free health check-ups and treatment programmes in public health care facilities across the country, said the official.

At the same time, it also targets pregnant women, helping them get easier access to medical services in public hospitals nationwide.

The policy has been launched in 2013, initially benefiting mothers and children from poor families in several localities.-VNA
