Luxembourg signed with UN agencies in Vietnam agreements on an 8.1 million USD funding for the Vietnamese Government’s socio-economic programmes and projects.

These programmes and projects are formulated under the Joint Plan signed between the Vietnamese Government and the UN in 2012-2016, according to the documents, which were inked in Hanoi on November 8.

Of the funding, 3.8 million USD will go to the Joint Plan Fund, including 3 million USD for priority areas in education and health.

An amount of 1.3 million USD will be reserved for a project to improve women’s responsive capability to climate change, which will be jointly implemented by the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWomen) and Vietnam ’s Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

“The “Friends of Dien Bien Children” project, co-conducted by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee, will receive 2.485 million USD.

In addition, Luxembourg will also finance the “System of Vietnam e-Regulations” project carried out by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, stressed that UN organisations will closely coordinate with Vietnam’s partners in effectively using the aid from the Luxembourg Government in particular and development partners in general.-VNA
