The volume of fresh lychee exported to China through the border gates of northern mountainous Lao Cai province is expected to reach 50,000 tonnes in 2013, double last year’s exports, according to the Customs Department of Lao Cai International Border Gate.

So far this year, nearly 20,000 tonnes of lychee, mainly from northern Bac Giang province, have been exported to the neighbouring country through Kim Thanh border gate.

Before the harvest, many Chinese dealers came to Bac Giang province to sign all-in contracts. They also inspected the quality of lychee before being packaged. Meanwhile, Vietnamese traders were responsible for packaging, transporting and exporting the fruit.

Bac Giang provincial Department of Industry and Trade also worked with Lao Cai authorities to create convenient conditions for the export of agricultural products in general and lychee in particular, ensuring farmers’ benefits.-VNA
